The CakeSafe Metal Cake Scraper is a 10 by 4 inch ultra-thin stainless steel icing scraper with a built-in ruler. Most metal scrapers are thick, heavy and stiff. That's fine for one cake. By the third cake of the day, your wrist is done. We made this one so thin and light you'll forget you're holding it, with just enough flex to follow the side of the cake.
At just 0.6 mm thick and 4.24 oz, it's thinner than a credit card and light enough to use on every cake without hand or wrist fatigue. The 10-inch edge is long enough to smooth tall cakes and light enough to be your go-to cake scraper for shorter cakes too!
*Practice fire safety when heating with a flame. The metal gets hot quickly.
Use it with our Acrylic Disk Starter Set for perfectly straight sides and sharp top edges, and the Tier Ruler for perfectly centered tiers.
Which CakeSafe cake scraper is right for you?
All three give you a smooth, sharp finish. The difference is in how you like to work.
Want the smoothest possible finish? Go with the Metal Cake Scraper. Heat it for your last few passes, and use the ruler to measure tiers as you go. It’s the lightest option for decorators who ice cake after cake.
Do you make very tall tiers? Go with the OG Icing Scraper. It comes in four sizes, up to 14", for your tallest cakes.
Want to see your icing as you work? Go with the Quad Icing Scraper. It has four 90-degree edges on one tool.
Can’t decide? Use them together. Plenty of decorators build and scrape their icing with a clear acrylic scraper, then switch to the heated metal scraper for the final pass.
What is the best icing scraper for tall cakes? A long, thin, lightweight metal scraper works best for tall cakes. The CakeSafe Metal Cake Scraper is 10 inches long, so it smooths the full side of a tall cake in one pass, and at 4.24 oz it won't tire your wrist.
How thin is the CakeSafe icing scraper? It's 0.60 mm (0.024 inches) thick, which is thinner than a standard credit card. The thin edge gives you sharp, clean lines in buttercream and ganache.
Can you heat a metal cake scraper? Yes. Warm the scraper in hot water or briefly over a flame, and use it for your last few passes. The heat slightly melts the surface of the icing for an ultra-smooth finish. Practice fire safety, since the metal heats up quickly.
Which side of the scraper should touch the cake? Use the blank back side against the icing. The front has etched ruler markings, and the smooth back side gives the cleanest finish.
Is the scraper flexible? It has a mild amount of flex. It's firm enough to hold a straight edge and flexible enough to follow the side of the cake.
Will a metal scraper hurt my hands or wrists? Not this one. Most metal scrapers are thick and heavy, but this one weighs only 4.24 oz (120 g), so you can use it on cake after cake without hand or wrist fatigue.
What can I use the ruler for? The ruler has inches (1 to 10) and centimeters (1 to 25), so you can measure cake and tier heights, check layer thickness and space decorations evenly without reaching for another tool.
Is it dishwasher safe? No. Hand wash it in warm, soapy water.
