How Many Disks Per Size Do You Need?

We offer the choice of 1 disk or 2 disks per size. For ease of use, we always recommend purchasing 2 disks per size for the most even sides and crispest edges — one disk sits on top of your cake tier and one goes underneath. Some bakers choose to use just 1 disk and that works too. Instructions for both methods are included in every order.

About the Center Hole

All CakeSafe Acrylic Disks now come with a 3/8 inch center hole. If you do not chill your cakes before icing they can become wobbly when applying pressure with an icing scraper. To prevent this, run a temporary dowel through the disks and cake to keep your layers from shifting. The center hole does not affect disk performance if you choose not to use it.

What is the Best Acrylic Disk Size for My Cakes?

Before ordering, always measure your finished cakes and the bottom of your cake pans to make sure you are choosing the right disk size. Feel free to call or email us with any questions — we are always happy to help!

Here is our general sizing guide:

.5 Inch Sizing Best for cakes that shrink less than 1/8 inch or do not shrink at all, and you are not planning to cover with fondant.

.25 Inch Sizing Best for cakes that shrink more than 1/8 inch, or cakes that do not shrink but will be covered with fondant.

.00 Inch Sizing Best for cakes that shrink more than 1/4 inch.
