How Do Scallop Acrylic Cake Disks Work?
Scallop Acrylic Cake Disks work a little differently than our other shapes — here's what to know before you get started. You'll start with a round cake and use the Scallop Acrylic Disks as guides, building up quite a lot of buttercream to create the scalloped shape. Make sure you make more buttercream than you think you'll need — running out mid-tier is no fun. Because of the volume of buttercream being applied, you may need to chill your cake a couple of times throughout the icing process.
⚠️ Important: Scallop Acrylic Disks are only available in sets of 2 disks per size. Both disks are required to successfully create the scalloped edges in buttercream.

What Size Scallop Acrylic Cake Disk Do I Need for My Cake?
Sizing for the Scallop Acrylic Disks is simple. Whatever size round cake you are baking is the same size you need for your Scallop Acrylic Disks. For example, if you are baking a 6 inch round cake, select "6 Inch" from the Cake/Pan Size drop-down menu. There are no additional icing thickness sizes to choose from for this shape.
Do CakeSafe® Scallop Acrylic Disks Have a Center Hole?
Yes — all CakeSafe® Scallop Acrylic Cake Disks include a 3/8 inch center hole. Bakers use this hole to stabilize their cakes by threading a temporary dowel through it while they're icing. This is especially useful if you don't have time to refrigerate your assembled tier to set it before icing. Don't need it? No problem, the center hole has zero impact on how the disk performs.
