How Many Acrylic Cake Disks Do I Need?

CakeSafe® Hexagon Acrylic Cake Disks are available in a quantity of 1 or 2 disks per size. We strongly recommend purchasing 2 disks per size for the most level, even edges: one disk goes on top of your cake tier and one goes underneath it. Some bakers choose to use just one disk — that works too, and we'll include modified directions either way.

What Size Hexagon Acrylic Cake Disk Do I Need for My Cake?

Choosing the right size acrylic cake disk is important. Before ordering, measure your baked and cooled cakes to make sure you're getting the correct fit. Have questions? Call or email us — we're happy to help.

⚠️ Important: To determine the size of the Hexagon Cake Pans you're baking in, always measure them from POINT to POINT — not side to side.

Here's our general sizing guide:

.5 inch sizing — Best for cakes that shrink less than 1/8 inch (or don't shrink at all) and will not be covered with fondant.

.25 inch sizing — Best for cakes that shrink more than 1/8 inch, or cakes that don't shrink but will be covered with fondant.

.00 inch sizing — Best for cakes that shrink more than 1/4 inch.

Do CakeSafe® Acrylic Disks Have a Center Hole?

Yes — all CakeSafe® Hexagon Acrylic Cake Disks include a 3/8 inch center hole. Bakers use this hole to stabilize their cakes by threading a temporary dowel through it while they're icing. This is especially useful if you don't have time to refrigerate your assembled tier to set it before icing. Don't need it? No problem, the center hole has zero impact on how the disk performs.
